FAQ's

What does my child need to bring?

Toiletries, towel, swim trunks for boys, one-piece swim suit for girls, throw-away cameras (one regular and an underwater one for snorkeling), Hiking shoes and socks, sandals, sunscreen and 2 pairs of jeans. Pack up all of the items listed above into one soft-sided bag that folds up.  We supply and outfit the kids with everything else they will need, like mask, fins, snorkel,  and  wet suits when the water is a little colder.

 Will my child get seasick?

The Pacific Monarch is a 125' ship and is very stable in the water. We anchor in secluded coves where it is calm, however; if your child is prone to motion sickness, we recommend Bonine over Dramamine.

Will my child be safe?

Yes! Safety is our number one priority! The Pacific Journey crew consists of Emergency Medical Technicians, Firefighters, Red Cross Certified Ocean Lifeguards, Active and Retired Law Enforcement Officers and United States Coast Guard Licensed Captains and Mates.

In the event of a medical emergency, are there any facilities nearby?

Yes, there is a hospital in Avalon on Catalina Island with an Emergency Room.  Everywhere we cruise is covered by the U.S. Coast Guard as well as the L.A., Orange and San Diego Counties Fire Departments Harbor Patrol units.

Does my child need any spending money?

Yes if you want your son or daughter to have some spending money that's fine. T-shirts, Hats, and snacks are available for purchase. All activities and meals, and healthy snacks are included in the daily rate.

Who do I contact in case of an emergency?

Our office is the best place to start as we are in and out of cell range while out at-sea.  Our experienced crew and staff will handle any medical issues onboard. If you have an emergency at home and need to contact your child, simply call us and we will get the message out to the ship immediately.  Make sure to fill out all contact numbers on your waiver form so we can get back in touch with you ASAP.

Does my child need to rent any gear for activities?

Kayaks, masks, fins, snorkels and wetsuits are all provided. If your child is already an experienced free diver, snorkel, or SCUBA diver they may be more comfortable in their own gear, so by all means, go ahead and pack it for them.  The one exception is SCUBA tanks, they don't need to bring their own, we supply them. Scuba is only offered on pre-arranged trips.

Can myself or my  child scuba dive?

Diving is not a part of our regular program, all dives MUST be approved prior to arrival at the ship No Exceptions. All divers must have completed Scuba waivers, certification cards, and logs, We reserve the right to refuse diving privileges to anyone, for any reason.

Where does my child need to board the ship?

We depart  from and return to the harbor in Long Beach, or Newport Beach CA.  Long Beach Harbor is approximately a half hour from Los Angeles International (LAX) and about 15 minutes from the Long Beach Airport.

Where does the ship go on the trips?

Most of the time we are anchored in a variety of protected and calm coves around Catalina Island.  Catalina Island is approximately 26 miles off of the coast from Long Beach, CA.  We also travel to San Diego and out towards San Clemente Island which is approximately 55 miles directly off of Dana Point, CA.
